Gave it a spin last night (it's already Wednesday here). Time of year for SC3 fans to lament, "maybe something new _next_ year?"

Also, let's get real. They all got old... Trey was grey when Book of Horizons came out. Dude's probably chillin' on the beach in Santa Cruz, smoking his blunt.

Waitin' like that skeleton from the skeleton on a bench meme for Trey to release that 2008-bound Holy Vehm album

Books 9 and 10, which are among the best the band has ever done, buried in the top albums list of last.fm because they're not on Spotify etc. Break the shackles, return to local media scrobbling and make last.fm charts a fully accurate representation of this and many other great artists' work.

Bet you were bummed when you realized the recent Mr. Bungle was just their first and worst demo.

Apparently they re-recorded it with Dave Lombardo and Scott Ian. Geez. It's too hard for me to believe Dunn, Patton and Spruance are so creatively bankrupt that they resort to re-recording old music. They're likely just doing it to squeeze money out of some die-hard fans and not out of a desire to create new music. I wonder why they chose Scott Ian to play guitar on the album. I'm thinking they got Scott Ian as a last resort because other thrash guitarists like Jeff Skolnick or Andreas Kisser turned them down. Scott Ian doesn't fit. He's like a bottom-tier generic thrash guitarist that's incapable of writing music.

Inclined to agree on the Scott Ian take, but he performed it well enough I suppose. Definitely can't see him writing riffs like early Bungle's.

"Apparently they re-recorded it" So you haven't even heard it? There's three tracks from the live DVD on YouTube. Check it out. Having Lombardo and Ian would have been a dream for Bungle at the time. What was it 1986? It was Trey's 1st time producing a 4 track so revisiting that is cool with me. They don't take themselves too seriously so it doesn't come across as self-indulgent. Awesome thrash riffage, some good covers and a stellar lineup. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Malkhut went straight to top 5 albums of the year after 1 listen and is holding strong 5 listens in! Possibly their best yet!

I decided to bite the bullet and get the digital download. I'm only halfway through my first listen and I'm already feeling very good about pulling the trigger on it. SC3 never disappoints. SC3 + Zorn is always fantastic. I love this band so much.

Good call. :) It's really blown me away, though. I'm totally happy with the money I spent for the set, but I do feel a little sad that there are doubtless a fair number of people who won't hear this awesome music because of the prohibitive price tag attached to it. I really wish they'd decided to make the volumes available separately, as with previous Masada books.

Pretty awesome huh? I've got to figure out a way to get it. I'm strapped for money right now, though.

Awesome! Thanks for the info. I definitely want this behemoth, but $250 is a little out of my price range at the moment. I'll figure something out though. :)

Was just looking again and noticed there are several other options, including the $75 digital DL one. That's what I get for commenting as soon as I woke up.

Loved these guys for a while now, but the Book of Angels album really has its hooks in me lately. Most of the Book of Angels series is of very high quality anyway, but SC3's contribution takes it up another notch or two. Great stuff.

Perichoresis sounded really weird to me at first. Half the tracks on it are some of my favourite SC3 tunes and I was so used to hearing the live versions of those songs that the studio versions just sound kinda weird (especially with the tabla). They've definitely grown on me, but I still don't quite enjoy them as much as the simpler live arrangements, which seem to have a lot more energy and punch... That said, the Chiefs are one of the best live bands around.

One of the best bands in the world. Or several of the best bands in the world, depending on your perspective.
