Sailing Before The Wind is a band founded in Tokyo, Japan, in 2011. The band's lineup has undergone several changes over the years, with bassist and composer Bitoku being the only original member.

The band was initially formed in 2011 by vocalist kneeya, guitarist matha, and bassist Bitoku. After their previous deathcore band disbanded, the trio decided to continue making music together. Shortly after, guitarist Takaya joined the band, and they released their first recording called "Horizon" as a trio.

In 2012, matha left the band, and they recruited new members hitomi and sHiN. They released another recording titled "A Ray of Light" as a split with the American metalcore band Goodbye Nevaeh. The band gained some recognition through their released recordings but had not performed live yet.

In 2013, hitomi and sHiN left the band, and they recruited new members Yuki and yoshito. The band started to tour in various cities across Japan. However, by the end of the year, both Yuki and yoshito also left the band.

In 2014, daichi and hiroaki joined the band, and they had their first live show at TSUTAYA O-WEST. Later that year, all members except Bitoku announced their departure from the band. However, Bitoku, kneeya, and Takaya decided to continue playing together with the help of support members. In December 2014, kneeya and Takaya had their farewell live, and the band decided not to recruit any more official members.

In the following years, the band had the support of various musicians, including drummers Taisei, Hibiki, Kohey, Taiju, and Hiroki, and guitarist Kairi. Despite the lineup changes, the band continued to perform live and release music.

In 2019, the band settled with the lineup of vocalist Ryoichi, guitarists Kosuke and Daisuke, bassist Bitoku, and drummer Hiroki. This lineup became the longest-lasting in the band's history, and they focused on live performances.

In 2022, the band released singles "Illuminator" and "One Step Over," gaining attention and views on YouTube. However, guitarist Daisuke left the band in March 2022, marking the end of the longest-standing lineup.

Under this unique arrangement of Bitoku plus four touring members, the band continued to make music and perform live. Bitoku took care of non-musical aspects of band activities, while the other four members focused on the music.

Bitoku, as the primary songwriter and engineer, writes and produces every song in the band's repertoire. They gained a growing underground fan base with their EPs "Judgement" in 2012 and "Sanctuary" in 2016. Their 2019 EP "Revised Standards" received high recognition in the Japanese metalcore scene and ranked #2 in the Japanese Apple Music Metal chart. The EP featured guest vocals from Thomas Pirozzi of Sienna Skies and Al & Nick Boltz of A Scent Like Wolves. Sailing Before The Wind continues to be highly regarded in the Japanese metalcore scene, having released multiple EPs and embarked on numerous tours.
