New York, New York" is a song written and performed by American alt-country musician Ryan Adams. It appeared on his 2001 album Gold. The New York, New York Songfacts explains that Adams was born and raised in North Carolina, where he was a member of the group Whiskeytown. He first moved to New York in 1999 to be closer to his girlfriend, who he wrote this about. In the song, she is "New York," hence the line, "I still love you, New York."
The song's music video, showing Adams performing in front of the city's skyline, was filmed four days before the September 11, 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center.
The song's lyrics mention several lower Manhattan geographic references, including the intersection of Avenue A and 10th Street, Houston Street, and Avenue B.
