You can't confine this band to a genre. It's the sum of strangely contrasting parts.

Yeah, I love it when bands go all out in the studio. That will be the work that will be around when you're long gone. Follow through with your vision. Stargazer and Wide Open sound even better live, so don't worry about the songs disappointing live. Also, I disagree that Matt sounds tired on the new album. Space Tiger is one of the most convincing deliveries I've ever heard from him. These guys are more mature than they were when they wrote The Resignation, and they understand you don't have to be overly sensational with the lyrics, or bombastic with the sound. You just have to play with vision & passion, and the message will be loud and clear at any volume.

I loved the "live-esque" goal of the past few albums, but by the time Mandala came out it was starting to wear thin. I'm so glad they produced this shit outta this one, it sounds amazing.

@misturgrieves... I don't think so. The thing you might be hearing is that they said they didn't have the live show in mind at all when writing, recording, and producing this album. The previous albums they always wanted to sound "live and roomy."

On another note, am i the only one that thinks that Matt's vocals are too restrained and totally lack the passion he has always had? They sound too overproduced.

I have to say, the new one is gonna be a grower. After a 'hiatus' of a few years i'm not surprised that the new one is different once again. That said, the straightforward feel and 'hook-oriented'ness of this one is odd. Glad to see they're still creating though

Great album, prefer the last three over this one but I love Will You Be Tomorrow and Fire To The Ocean.
