it's a shame that the data's corrupted for some of these american superdream recordings, there was a lot of gorgeous stuff there

having spent some time with these demos now, i understand why pollard felt FaCE was so underrated. the raw material for that album was indeed something really special. on par with the best of pollard's '90s solo material. really hits home just how much the production style bogged down his late-'00s solo stuff

doesn't seem like many others have realized it, but the second spurt of growth – long prophesied – was the year 2011...that lifeguards record is solid on the whole and has a couple of all-timers on it, the mars classroom is probably pollard's most consistently enjoyable album since before GBV broke up, birdcage is a relatively strong solo album for that era, let it beard is by far the best boston spaceships, capsized is by far the best circus devils, and you even get an EP worthy of classic GBV with doughnut for a snowman...wild! the vast majority of what he put out that year is worthwhile on its own merits, but man, if he had slimmed all of that down to maybe three rock-solid full-lengths, it would've completely revived his career in the larger indie circuit.

Been really digging Normal Happiness and The Crawling Distance lately, but I think his solo output has been quite weak for a few years now (with the exception of the marvellous Honey Locust Honky Tonk). Which album should I give another shot to make me change my mind?

Jack Sells the Cow is fantastic. I like it much more than Mouseman Cloud and even more than GBV's Let's Go Eat the Factory from earlier this year. Every song on there is fucking killer.

It's crazy how you can release such a super solid album as Jack Sells the Cow in between all this new great GBV music, but that's Bob for you, he is unique in that way. Pontius Pilate Heart and Big Groceries are both excellent power-pop gems. I really like The Rank of a Nurse too. Good album!

Really liking Mouseman Cloud. It's my first Pollard solo album and I enjoy it a ton. Definitely gonna have to look into more Pollard stuff.
