I miss his work. I gather he's happy with his car restoration business these days, but man, what I wouldn't give for him to come out of retirement and just give us one live show. Obviously, ideal if he reformed Catherine Wheel, toured, did a new album, etc., like Drop Nineteens and Slowdive, but I'm modest - I'll take what I can get.

unfortunately it seems pretty unlikely he'll ever make new music as he's said recently that he hasn't picked up his guitar in years :( but anything could happen! i'm sure he'll play some more shows in his lifetime. he's always been vocal about preferring playing live over recording music so it definitely wouldn't be implausible.

Earlier this year, there was a lot of buzz about something brewing in Catherine Wheel land, and given what had happened with these other bands returning from retirement, I certainly got my hopes up. One of my great regrets was certainly never getting an opportunity to see them live. But it turned out, the band was just getting their pre-Fontana Norfolk EPs remastered. And not even for physical release, just for the streamers - though I was eventually able to find them as mp3's for purchase. I never want to be accused of looking a gift horse in the mouth, so I was certainly grateful we got these remasters, but that was one major let-down. Still: I maintain that strictly speaking, Rob doesn't owe us anything. He gave us an incredible body of work with CW and his solo work, a legacy most musicians could only dream of, and I'm glad he's found a fun, fulfilling 2nd career. I just wish there could have been a bit more, you know?

he's such a brilliant musician that it's sad to think we'll probably never get any new material from him or CW ever again, but i agree - what we did get is absolutely stellar! two of the greatest shoegaze albums of all time and it doesn't even stop there; the rest of the albums are uniquely great too. overall, it must be really nice to have such a fulfilling musical legacy whilst also having a successful business he's passionate about, so major kudos to him! i hope he's well.

Can't say enough about Catherine Wheel... and your solo efforts are amazing. Fresh Wine for the Horses is a great album. So glad to see you Rob, hope to make it to an L.A. show the next time you play out.

I had reported back in Feb. of '07 that I had seen the man perform... I saw him again last night (opening for the incredible [artist]Neverending White Lights[/artist]) & he was just as brilliant as before & I had the pleasure of meeting him after the show!! WOOT. Got his autograph & gushed a bit, as I'm sure you can all imagine. ;) He was very warm & friendly. An unforgettable night indeed.

Just got in the door from his gig here in Toronto. Absolutely incredible acoustic set. Did all the same great tunes as at the show sfegette attended. Wonderful voice, energy and spirit. I had forgotten what a great performer Mr. Dickinson is as I hadn't seen him since the early 90's with Catherine Wheel. Just fantastic! :)

Just caught Rob's solo show at Cafe Du Nord in San Francisco - OMG, he rocked the house, playing highlights off his new solo album alongside Catherine Wheel faves (Heal, Crank, Black Metallic, I Want to Touch You) and gave us the option of My Solituda vs. Future Boy (which won out) for the encore. Brilliant gig, in a really small, intimate venue. A must see- he was on fire!
