Yes, but also you can just like emo music without feeling like you're part of some stigmatized sub-human group of society. It's not hurting anybody

Now that I got that obligatory gripe out of the way, let me heap praise on Rites of Spring in general and this record in particular. There's been a lot of talk about how the group, particularly because of Guy's vocals and lyrics, is one of the forefathers of Emo/Emocore/whatever, but for me this music is best appreciated simply as (AWESOME) Punk/Post-Hardcore. Guy is one of the best singers (and guitarists) the whole Punk scene ever produced, and he is just a man possessed on this album and the other RoS material. I also need to say that the drumming, by Brendan Canty, is of course fantastic, and in particular the drum SOUND on these songs is among my favorite I've ever heard. Take a listen to the opening "Spring" or "Hain's Point" or really any track here and you'll notice they've got that galloping, flat, sort of "plank-y"/wooden tone to them that I love (heard elsewhere on such disparate but great records as The Band's self-titled album and Trout Mask Replica). Fantastic album/band.
