I think this album has aged better than More Adventurous. UtB is probably the weaker album, but I feel I listen to it more than MA. It's a weird, um, dichotomy, I think. That said, Portions For Foxes is head and shoulders above anything else on the albums, and Dejalo is the weakest track. It would probably be the weakest RK track, if the Rkives version of it didn't exist. So hey anyway, this is a great album!

Man you know what, I like this album. Of course I think it’s their worst album, but I also think Take Offs and Landings, More Adventurous, and ESPECIALLY The Execution of all Things are huge standards to hold an album too. Under the Blacklight isn’t anywhere near those albums but I don’t really care? This album is really fun in my opinion, I think it’s a great record to chill out to. The Rilo Kiley sound is still there which is all I care about. I still 100% get the problems people have with this album and I think it’s a little embarrassing that even Sandbox Sessions and the self-titled EP are more interesting than this. But whatever, I think this album is fun.

Except for "Dreamworld" and "Give a Little Love", this album is awful. If you look at the lyrics for this album compared to their past albums, it's embarrassingly simplistic. It's like Jenny wrote all of these songs while hungover after a week of drinking...it's so bad. The Rilo Kiley sound is there, but it's so muddled and poppy and kitsch-- and not in a good way.

it's not that it's bad music though... it's just average, and all their other albums are great.

"dreamworld" is one of my favorite rk songs, but meh.. not a fan of this album. "silver lining" is good too.

I would concede this is not Rilo Kiley's best work but it's still a damn fine record. [4]

To those who say it's not the Rilo Kiley I fell in love with: what I love best about them is that all their albums really do sound different. They have such an eclectic sound. I like the dancier sound they have here, just I like the more lo-fi sounds of their first two albums, and the halfway point on more adventurous. Great band. Hope they return someday.

I don't really care how 'pop friendly' this album is meant to be, I still love it. I don't believe it's their best but if someone else comes along and enjoys it better than the other albums, they should be allowed to without having their opinion shot down in flames just because some annoying music elitist reckons the album is too mainstream or some utter bollocks. Get a grip and stop being so pathetic. Listen to what YOU want, and stop caring what other people think.

"The sound is so pop friendly it is embarassing". I hate this, people who think their music elitists because they shun anything that is mainstream or considered pop. Dude people who listen to "real music" or "good music" listen to anything no matter how many other people are listening to it or how "pop" it is (how is this album pop btw? reminds me of country rock more than anything) Why dont these people just listen to the albums they think are good? since they have no bussiness spluring their nonsense all over this albums shout box. Okay about the album. It's not my favorite but some of the tracks are solid. 1-4 and 6 (6 being one of the best rilo songs i've heard) are all great songs. :]

Chungyen - You're listening to boring indie music whether it's overproduced or not, no one gives a fuck about your conserving their artistic integrity - the absentee in the first place.

This album breaks my heart (and not in a good way)...with the exception of "Silver Lining"

I find this album very disappointing compared to their earlier albums. It's just *too* pop now... before they had good pop sensibilities, catchy tunes, but backed up with substance and good lyrics. If i didn't expect more from the band based on past experience, I'd have stopped listening to this after 2 or 3 songs. As it is, I heard the whole thing. Just one example - Dejalo sounds like a bloody Shakira song, and a mediocre one at that... Definitely their weakest album to date.

I don't know how you could say More Adventurous is more accessible. Under the Blacklight consists of songs that mean absolutely nothing, while all previous albums use wit and cleverness to tell a story. This one lacks all of that.

i'm not sure this album is more "mainstream" really. there's nothing really mainstream about a song like smoke detector, unless we're talking mainstream circa 1962. more adventurous is definitely their most accessible.

probably because it's...different...from their earlier albums, if you've heard them. rilo kiley used to sound more indie rock, and this album is very mainstream pop. (: it's still good but personally i prefer their earlier works.

I like the album, though. Not as good as their earlier, more unique stuff, but it's good.

If by progress you mean become like every other pop band out there then no, they don't need to do that.

Agreed it is not as good as the others. I definitely agree with felghen, though - some delicious melodies on here.
