There aint no help to be given, you take your last horrific breath as your life and memories dissolve into the universe, never remembered except those who are still around who knew you. Then you're compost 6 feet underground in a decaying pine box for eternity. God's a funny guy, he has all kinds of party tricks. Cancer, AIDS, Addiction, depression and violence.

I am an atheist, but I love this song so much.... And no, I'm not misinterpreting the lyrics. [6] But IMO, this IS atheistic. The way I get it, it's actually soooooo clever! At first you think she's preaching and joking how people only need god when they are in trouble (kind of what a religious person would "give a lesson"), but the last statement - no, we're laughing WITH god (at those moments) - holds SO much meaning! That means that god is playing a joke with all of us, putting us in misery for his amusement (hence why he's laughing). So some people get his joke and start laughing as well with him. That's what I get form this. IDK, maybe it's not that atheistic as it doesn't deny god's existance, but more of a prayer-in-c kinda style of a critic to god.

point taken, a spot of logic does go along way and ends with atheism. none-the-less i expect a fantastic flame war

To get what I'm trying to say, imagine "No one's laughing at God" is replaced with "People only pray to God ." People only pray to God in a hospital. People only pray to God in a war. People only pray to God when they're starving or freezing and so very poor.

People keep saying "I like this song, but I'm an atheist." You realize Regina is atheist, right? The point of the song is that no one laughs at God when they need him. People pray when they're afraid and want God to make it better like a "genie." It's a satire on the human condition. This song is beautiful, especially the lyrics. Everyone is guilty of this in some way, shape or form, and she understands that...

The message of the lyrics - at least to me - is that even the greatest atheists, those who laugh with God in cocktails, reclaim his name and presence when afraid, or close to death. Because as said once Dostoyevsky, "God is the fear of after death". (and btw, sorry for poor english)
