Biography

  • Born

    5 June 1990 (age 34)

There is more than one artist under the name RKZ:
1. rkz is an electronic musician/producer from Florida. Most popularised by the usage of their song "apricot special" in Geometry Dash level "Crossroads", the artist gives an incredibly original mix of electronic and electric guitar, while using a lot of sample as well.

2. RKZ (pronounced ‘Ricks’) is a 22 year-old musician from Luton, England. He began his career in 2009 as a rapper, influenced by Hip-Hop from the late ‘90s and early ‘00s. As his career developed, he began focusing on vocal delivery and range, and is now recognised for his singing and song-writing abilities.

In 2009, RKZ released his debut single Renegades featuring popular Asian rapper, Raxstar, and the song received consistent airplay on BBC Asian Network.

The 2010 release of mixtape Dark Night of the Soul catalysed RKZ’ career, with several songs around that era receiving consistent airplay across the entire BBC platform - culminating in a strong underground following. The rich production, arrangement and delivery in his single, How Are You in particular, stood out as a fan’s favourite. Since then, he has gone onto release several mixtapes, EPs and singles (see discography, below). Wander/Lust, the two-part record (released February 2013) showcased RKZ' transition from rapper to singer, and the title played on the name of his forthcoming R&B album, Wanderlust.

RKZ is currently working on an as yet untitled 2013 EP and mixtape, as well as Wanderlust, with executive producer Gifted The Great. The album is currently scheduled for a 2014 release.

Philanthropy & Additional Work

In 2012, RKZ was announced as Ambassador for CALM: the Campaign Against Living Miserably. The charity aims to reduce the suicide rate with young men in the UK, particularly London. Suicide catalysed by depression and stress is the single biggest killer of young men aged 15 to 35 in the UK. RKZ currently contributes to the charity’s publication CALMzine as a feature writer and poet.

RKZ is a prominent video director, having directed several music videos of his own (Are You Down, Gemineye's Mind, Jhené's Song, Superstars, Wander/Lust) as well as for artists including Cashtastic, Roach Killa, Words Ali and Skott Summerz.
