Lord Quas speaks his mind on how police view and deal with crime in “lower class” environments. Black people are more likely to be subjected to police brutality. There are some fucked up cops in the world.
Asked by Talib Kweli about this song, and his “conscious rapper” side, Madlib explained:
"I been through that police brutality, so I know. First hand, living in Oxnard, you know. Like, I’ve had a lot of things happen, you know. Where my pops wanted to blow up the precinct or something, nah mean? Cops is crazy in Oxnard. I mean… everybody Black goes through that. So, you gotta speak on it a little bit, bring some awareness.
Cause, Public Enemy, I was proud when that stuff came out, nah mean? It just taught you things. New hip-hop doesn’t really teach you anything, you know? Teach you to take pills, or something. But it don’t really teach you."
