On “Dreamin Of The Past,” Pusha T and Kanye both reminisce over luxurious moments from their life that past versions of themselves never thought they would experience. The title comes from a line in the first verse of the track’s sample, Donny Hathaway’s 1972 cover of John Lennon’s 1971 song “Jealous Guy.”

Push’s manager, Steven Victor first previewed this track on his Instagram while at the afterparty of the KENZO Paris show, on January 23, 2022. Days later, Upscale Vandal, a close friend and business associate of Push, shared another short snippet via Instagram, teasing the song’s release.

On April 11, 2022, Push talked about the collaboration in an interview with Charlemagne, where he revealed Kanye West originally produced this beat for his August 2021 album "Donda" but Push liked it so much, he “begged” for it, that Ye has a brief appearance on the song and the song’s title. The track also appeared on an early version of the track list for "Donda".

"This record, I begged for the beat. That happens a lot, Ye will have a beat or he will have a folder of beats and he’ll give out the folder accordingly. Sometimes it’ll be that he thinks it’s phenomenal, he loves it, but he’s like, ‘It’s for you.’ And other times, he hears it and he knows it’s for me but he’ll be like, ‘Nah, this is mine, this is good, I’m working on an album too.’ ‘Cause we usually work simultaneously on albums. And it was just one of those ones that I kept going back to and was like, 'Listen, man, I need this. I need this record.’ And I was like, ‘You know what, you should be on the record too,’ that’s the compromise. I was like, ‘You can be on the record too,’ because he switches, he flips flops. Like, ‘Yeah, I was gonna give it to you but you know, bro, I just need it back.’ And then you got to go through that whole process so I was trying to alleviate that quickly by just saying, ‘Get on the record, let’s do it together.’ And I did my verses and he was like, ‘Man, I can’t rhyme behind this,’ and I was like, ‘Yes, you can. You got to understand that everything for you isn’t heavy-lifting. I’m the heavy lifter in this situation.’ I gave him the example of B.I.G. coming in for like three bars like, ‘You niggas got some audacity, you sold a million now you half of me, get off my dick, kick it bitch.’ That was so poignant, monumental, crazy, and it was in three bars. ‘You already did the beat, you already maestro’d this shit. All you got to do is just, whatever.’ And that’s why he has, I don’t know, maybe it’s four bars at the end or something. Something that he wanted to get off and that was that."

“Dreamin Of The Past” debuted and peaked at #81 on the Billboard Hot 100 for the chart week ending May 7, 2022.
