listen to this with an open mind, you are in for a great treat, underrated gem on their catalogue

Probably better described as a Les Claypool solo album, but a really fucking good album. The guitar is largely uninteresting and plays more of a support role, but the basslines are among Claypool's best, so it balances out.

Started listening to Primus in 1990. This record is best since Tales from the punchbowl. 100% PRIMUS ..but with different approach. On most songs bass licks are monster like it used to be. Jay can`t replace Tim, but he`s great on this album. Larry is just Larry...one of the best. Primus sucks!

its alright, but it's more solo claypool than primus. i never really got into claypool's side stuff. his playing is less funk nowadays and more like a circus. he used to have a good balance going on, but after a while the dude let the goofiness overwhelm the jam. theres plenty of cool songs here for sure, but i can't shake the feeling that i'm just hearing one of his outlandish side projects.

disappointment. there's some good tracks. But probably the worst Primus album next to Antipop.

@David Their self-produced stuff is loud to get that tape saturation distortion sound. I'm ok with that.

I think the mixing on this is fine, sort of a way to say fuck you to all the professional studios who're giving everyone an overproduced overcompressed sound these days. Good for them. [2] Best sounding Primus album since the glorious Seas Of Cheese and Pork Soda.

I play Bass and say that Les could drop a Bass guitar off a building and it smashing on the ground would be better than my best sound.

I love this album, but according to the reviews and comments I had previously read I was expecting more Primus and less Les Claypool in the overall sound. I love this album because I love anything that Les has created with several folks over the last 10 years, but there's little of the 90s sound of Primus. I'd say that Ler is unfortunately less relevant in today's Primus, while Jay Lane is luckily far better than Brain even though Tim Alexander is still unsurpassed, IMHO.

In an interview after the Open'er Festival, Les said that on the "Green Naugahyde" he changed his style of singing - it's "more melodic, less narrative". I've got a simple question - WHERE?

The mixing is so strange. Quiet drums, and it sounds like Les was singing into a mic covered with a sock. I don't know how I feel about it quite yet

The whole "Primus sucks" thing is so old and annoying. I'm sure it was hilarious years ago, but when I saw them, they were so annoyed by all the stoners yelling it the whole time.

This album has a lot of potential, I think the mixing brings it down... there are some good Ler moments that are just drowned out by Les... People don't just listen to Primus for Les, but for the entire package.

I take my comment back. This is probably in my top 3 Primus albums, and my favourite to listen to now.
