all my Portico Quartet scrobbles for their previous three albums are grouped together here. I'm not impressed. There is a massive distinction between the styles. Last.fm should keep them separate. Gone are the hang drum, the saxophone and the drum kit with which they first caught the world’s attention. What emerges instead is – put simply – lifeless. [3]

Saw these guys perform live at Tramlines last night. Despite some technical difficulties they sounded great and very atmospheric. The half-hour queue to get in was well worth it. Those disliking the new Portico sound perhaps need to come at the new music with a more open mind as this is essentially a new band formed out of the previous Portico Quartet musicians. It is possible to like both!

I dislike the new soulless Portico sound, it is completely different and all my Portico Quartet scrobbles for their previous three albums are grouped together here. I'm not impressed. There is a massive distinction between the styles. Last.fm should keep them separate. Gone are the hang drum, the saxophone and the drum kit with which they first caught the world’s attention. What emerges instead is – put simply – lifeless. It sounds like 80's synth pop.

Living Fields is a decent album by itself, but...damn the magical Portico Quartet sound really is dead isn't it? :(
