"U-Mass" is the sixth track from the Pixies 1991 album Trompe le Monde. Band members Frank Black/Black Francis and Joey Santiago met while living together at U-Mass (University of Massachusetts Amherst), forming the nucleus of what would become the Pixies. Francis dropped out after returning from an exchange trip to Puerto Rico, where he studied Spanish.
