Biography

  • Founded In

    Puerto Rico, United States

At age 17 the singer Francisco "Pirulo" Rosado Rosario was orphaned by both parents, victims of AIDS. That blow that shook his life in full adolescence caused him to take refuge in music, becoming a percussionist and composer.
By then, the 38-year-old artist had to take care of his younger brothers, Sergio and Patricia, and together they surpassed the stones along the way to become good men.

For the tests suffered, the salsero wanted, under the concept of Pirulo and his tribe, to seek the positive meaning of life. That is reflected in his album Calle linda, whose first cut is A lo loco, but happy.
Born in the San José neighborhood of Río Piedras, Pirulo earned his fourth year at the Escuela Libre de Música and obtained two scholarships to study at Berklee College of Music in Boston, but he did not finish his studies because of the cost of living there and Because he felt obliged to take care of his brothers.
"My father, being an excellent man, of great love, tremendous father and so, fell into the clutches of drugs, was addicted, tecato as we say in the street. Sadly, he became infected with the HIV virus, AIDS, and infected my mother, who had nothing to do with the street. She was a mother of nails and claws with us and of much love, and that same love infected her. That was a disgrace, I was a teenager, a little flame … ", narrates to Primera Hora the interpreter who wears a long hair with dreadlocks.

In spite of the addiction of his father and of having been raised of humble form in the neighborhood, it expresses that his parents "taught to him many values. They taught me the true way of how one should live based on morals, respect and beautiful things. And the music has brought me forward. "

When he was alone with his brothers, he had a broken voice that "there was a lot of emotional work, love, love and above all else, which is the only thing that will keep us facing this life that touched us." He adds that "I cut (gets excited) a little because it's my truth and it does not bother me, I'm proud. Of that pain, of that feeling, of that cry that does not go, because to lose a mom and dad, you have to learn to play with that pain and it is a pain that will die with me. My daughters (Sábara Iré and Iyansa Iré) have alleviated that pain and feeling, and the stage that is my escape. I have not been to a psychologist. "
But not everything was negative in the life of Pirulo, because his father was flutist and his percussionist uncles, which served as inspiration to fall in love with the salsa genre. Ismael Rivera, Marvin Santiago, The Gran Combo of Puerto Rico and La Sonora Ponceña were their musical base. And it is with that tropical cadence that he wants to carry his positive message through his lyrics.
But his first professional experience in music was like rapper in the record label White Lion of Elías de León. He worked with Tego Calderón, producing the album El Abayarde against him and as the musical director of his band, which allowed him to grow as an artist and to travel.
