The Atom Heart Mother Suite is a 23:44 long experimental piece which contains classical music elements and instruments, recorded sound 'samples' and vocals.
The main theme was written by Gilmour, but when Gilmour and Waters realized they couldn't write a symphony, they asked Ron Geesin to make the piece for them, to add more instruments and melodies. Ron Geesin finished the piece after a month. It was released in october 1970 inside an album which carries the same name.
Stanley Kubrick asked Roger Waters to use elements from the suite for the soundtrack of his movie, "A Clockwork Orange", but Waters refused.
