prolly a very unpopular opinion, but I honestly think this is their best album. I mean, the transition from Drakkar Noir to Chloroform is just POIFECT, Entertainment is a banging opening track, Oblique City is such a good closer and The Real Thing is one of the best songs they've made <3

to me, it's pretty clear that this is one of their best and it seems to only get better after time, imo definitely has 2 or 3 of phoenix's top 5 moments, especially the transition you mention but the last 3rd of the title track 'bankrupt' is perhaps the best thing they've ever done <3

the album is okay, but the songs really suck when played live (except: Entertainment)

Crackling with energy, certainly not a "bankrupt" album, and definitely not their "worst"

wolfgang was a LOW POINT. they went so poppy and safe for that album. their albums pre-wolfgang were more influenced by soul and wolfgang was just pop fluff. bankrupt! is something completely different though. they've evolved their sound and it is actually even better than what i originally liked them for. that almost never happens. absolutely in love with bankrupt!

The more I listen to this the more I love it. AOTY. No doubt. So much love and care was put into this album.

Definitely a grower. It's not Wolfgang, it's different, but it's really very good. Drakkar Noir, Chloroform, Bourgeois and Trying To Be Cool are my current favourites, but different ones stick out on each listen. I'm really enjoyed "Don't" right now. I was disappointed on first listen, but 4 or 5 in I'm loving it.

Mmm. REALLY not feeling this after a couple of listens. It's just *drowning* in synths and it's so thick and heavy, that you wonder where the hell the tunes are. Phoenix have always felt so snappy and sharp and this feels sluggish and a bit like hard work. I really hope I change my mind, or this will be the year's great disappointment.
