Haunting song about the anti-apartheid campaigner Steve Biko who died in South African police custody in 1977. Gabriel is joined in this performance by the great Youssou N’Dour.

I became acquainted with this song in the 90s from the Simple Minds cover. It was on a CD I got for a couple bucks on a bargain rack. I knew it was a cover at the time, but I just didn't have the money to put down on buying Peter's discography. Thankfully, music streaming has brought me back to Peter after all these years. The original "Biko" is truly magnificent.

Same experience... [2] Saw Peter Gabriel live about 17 years ago...when he played this song, the entire audience sang along, waiving their lighters...and continued to do so for 3-4 minutes after Peter and his entire band had left the stage, one by one. A moment I will always remember.

2 Weeks ago I definitely felt in the minority of those singing from what I could tell, didn't take anything away though from the importance of this song or the performance. But having read this shoutbox before and hearing my dad's stories over the years from Peter Gabriel concert over the past 4 decades, was slightly dissapointed considering the stories he had told me of fan engagement.

This is the "Zito's been murdered" on Miami Vice song. It's a good song but I'm not sure I want to listen to it again for that very reason. I was a kid and seeing Zito dead with that needle in his arm freaked me out and this song is the soundtrack to one of the first scary things I ever saw on tv. Great song, but scary to this child of the 80s.
