very true. especially the crooked rain ones. even though I like slanted and enchanted better, as a whole, the package of LA's desert origins is probably my favorite CD of all time

boudey wrote:
Agreed, but thats what I think about like half of their b-sides.

joliealtshuler wrote:
the sutcliffe catering song rules so much. its definitely in my top 10 favorite pavement songs of all time, totally should have been on a record

I was introduced to Pavement through BTC and that was pretty much all it took for me. CR, CR is great too though. I can drive around listening to Gold Soundz and Range Life on repeat and that is a day well spent.

quaint_presence wrote:
yugman, I started with slanted & enchanted, but its scattered nature made me appreciate the more rhythm friendly crooked rain, crooked rain. i guess no matter where you start, you'll love the next pavement album you listen to : P

boudey wrote:
There are like six different versions of Easily Fooled. How did it never make it to any album? It's so good!! Same with Box Elder.

yugman wrote:
Don't start with CR,CR. I did and its still my least favourite of the 5 main albums :/ I went for BTC after and thats when i properly fell in love with their music, then the rest was history.

Watery Domestic is awesome. Choosing between S&E and CRCR for the top spot is really tough... They're both amazing.

AnnaIstRad wrote:
First listen to the Watery Domestic EP. Only a few songs, but in my opinion, pretty much the gold. But their best album is Slanted & Enchanted. I think its way better than CRCR.
-
boudey wrote:
Yeah I third CRCR, although going in chronological order is also a safe bet.

joliealtshuler wrote:
I suggest crooked rain, but I also suggest that you also look at previous pages in the shout box because someone asks this very question every few weeks. I hope that didn't come across mean sounding, because I always want there to be more pavement listeners :)

PyramidFace wrote:
Crooked Rain is probably the best to start off with, it's the most accessible and brings the CHOONS

first album, easy as that, don't check out brighten the corners first like I did, it will take an awfully long time to get used to their earlier albumzzzzzzzzzzz

oooooooooh I want to win so badly.. I'd probably stop being a vegetarian to eat meatballs with malk (although I'm guessing that it will definitely be spiral)

it will always escape me as to why rattled by the rush is not number 1. why? do people listen to pavement? range life is not even one tenth as catchy or solid of a song

gambo, I think most of us are joking. the mark E smith track is hilarious though, I can send it to anyone if they want it.

boudey wrote:
Where can I find that "Mark E Smith" track?

batmantshirt wrote:
it's like weezer and the fall had a baby, and the baby grew up to be exactly like its parents. that would be pavement! ripoffs.

Gambo4279 wrote:
The 'Fall rip-off' complaints below are clearly from people who have not listened to either the Fall or Pavement closely enough. Even Pavement are in on the joke: listen to their 'Mark E Smith' track.

boudey wrote:
Ouch!

joliealtshuler wrote:
never mind the fall, every single song of theirs is a complete weezer rip off
