I prefer the 2002 reissue. The background noises in the 1998 version are too distracting

The very best of British folk horror, if you haven't seen Robin Redbreast yet..you must! It pre-dates Wickerman.

Wicker Man soundtrack makes most (if not all) neofolk look try-hard and pretentious af with ease. Still have to watch the final cut of the movie tho.

It is one of the great losses to music history that we are left us with so little of his music.

@nanapo: From what I can tell from websites, the original 99 minute cut is lost, period. The 85(?) minute (and most reviled) cut is the only one surviving intact. A 94(?) minute version was recut from the 85(?) minute, and addition footage from VHS(?) or other imperfect material. That, I believe, is what is now labelled the "director's cut" version. I found a link that summarised this on http://www.wicker-man.com/

Classicsquid: The first song heard over the opening credits of The Wicker Man is a rendition of a ballad written by the Scottish poet Robert Burns ( 1759-1796 ). The Highland Widow's Lament is believed to be inspired by the massacre at Glen Coe ( whose name roughly translates into modern English as the 'narrow creek' mentioned in the lyrics ).

An amazing film, does anyone know anything about the song playing at the opening? All the soundtrack says is opening music is it traditional? If so, what era, what region, and who else has done it? (in response to Ascensionday... only three tracks have any dialogue from the film, and I only found it distracting in one case. All of it was quite appropriate, really...)

So one version has irritating noise from the film over all of the songs, and the other has a different recording of Willow's Song...argh! Just release a version with master recordings of the versions used in the film!
