"(Fuck A) Silver Lining" is a song about wanting to always be the best and staying on top all the while having a pessimistic tone of having lost in the past and wanting to rise out of their past and wanting to show off success. It may also be a narrative into how Brendon doesn't care how his songs rank.
The opening of the song welcomes old sinners into the Pray for the Wicked era and welcomes new sinners to come along for the ride.
When asked about “(Fuck A) Silver Lining” on the Zach Sang Show, Urie explained his views behind the sentiment.
"Essentially the message of that song is ‘nothing’s ever good enough; don’t let anything be good enough.’ ‘Cause everybody is like … 'look on the bright side’. ‘no, no, no, no. I want it to be better. We can make it better.’"
