Terrible news. RIP Graeme Naysmith. Such a unique guitar player and always seemed like a top bloke.

Upset and offended that I forgot about their existence for the past half decade

As much as I would love to see a reunion as well... I don't think we'll see it. I don't know all the details, but my sense is that Ian Masters is the main stumbling block. He basically just got super weird about the music he was making with Pale Saints, viewing it as too bourgeois for his tastes, and now he just does more avant garde stuff in Japan. (That would also be a practical problem with any reunion; with the rest of the band in the UK, and Ian in Japan full time, there'd be logistical issues if nothing else.) I could see the rest of the post-Ian, Slow Buildings-era Pale Saints line-up interested in it, and though I personally would like to see that, I don't think there's enough general interest. For many fans, any Pale Saints line-up lacking Ian and that voice of his wouldn't be worth it. It's a shame.

I haven't listened to them yet but maybe soon. Why did they name themselves "Pale Saints"? Is it because of the song Pale Saints by Eyeless In Gaza (from their 1982 album Pale Hands I Loved So Well)?

The best thing about Pale Saints is their unrock'n'rollness. Their sound is a beautiful limpid psychedelia of ghostly guitar drizzle. They hark back to the likes of the Byrds filtered through a Dream pop haze.

About 20 years ago I was on hold with Microsoft. At the time they had an honest-to-goodness DJ playing music and commenting on wait times and whatnot. That was when I first heard Pale Saints and I ran out and got In Ribbons almost as soon as I got off the phone. One of the best albums of the 90s and beyond.
