Biography

Overnight Lows can refer to at least two different bands:

1:
Unfortunately now disbanded. Please find the excellent former voice of The Overnight Lows. Here, http://www.last.fm/music/Jules+Larson

“Taking something classic and making it their own, Los Angeles based OVERNIGHT LOWS expands upon the concept of rock n’ roll on disc, on stage, and on air. A band in the making for three years, OVERNIGHT LOWS has hit their stride in 2006 with a new lineup and the same hard-hitting attitude.

Founded by singer Jules and guitarist/producer Joz, the duo seemed an unlikely pair at the start. Their backgrounds were as diverse as their musical influences; Joz growing up in Mexico and favoring the sounds of bands such as Blur, Queen, and Zeppelin, and Jules, an L.A. native, with a style as spirited as her love of early Motown. Add a rhythm section to the equation with Jeff on drums and Moses on bass, let the old blend with the new, and OVERNIGHT LOWS is now poised to make their mark.

With a magnetic stage presence and a variety of well-crafted catchy pop songs under their belt, OVERNIGHT LOWS has played gigs at some of the most marquee venues in Southern California, including THE VIPER ROOM, THE TROUBADOUR, CLUB MOSCOW, THE KEY CLUB, and concluded a September residency at SAFARI SAMS in Hollywood. They have shared the stage with the likes of UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF GIANTS, THE VACATION, COLD WAR KIDS, THE RANDIES, METAL SKOOL, THE MUFFS, and MATT COSTA. Their self-produced, self-titled debut album, released April 2006, can be heard in rotation on INDIE 103.1 fm and KXLU 88.9 fm (in Los Angeles/Orange County), as well as 94.9 fm in San Diego. OVERNIGHT LOWS has also received song placements in the film Pulse, written by Wes Craven, and a show called The Block on Nick, Jr.”

2:
A "punk rock" band from Jackson, MS
"Goner Records' first offering from an ambitious 2010 release schedule (which includes new albums from Ty Segall, Eddy Current Suppression Ring, and Harlan T. Bobo, just to name a few) comes in the form of the debut recording by Jackson, Mississippi punk heroes, Overnight Lows.

The album, City of Rotten Eyes, is a classic example of what you'd expect from a Goner release: Blazing guitar riffs, shouted choruses, in-and-out, done. With 12 bombastic songs clocking in at just under 22 minutes, Overnight Lows are clearly not here to waste anybody's time.

The band (definitely NOT to be confused with with utterly brilliant alternative pop group from Los Angeles of the same name, by the way), is fronted by the husband/wife duo of Marsh and Daphne Nabors, both formerly of the Comas and Lover! (Fat Possum Records). The two trade off lead vocal duties, and their frantic back-and-forth delivery is a signature part of the Overnight Lows' sound, as is the relentless drumming of Paul Artigues. Artigues, a chef who was once featured on the Food Network's Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, pounds the drums with reckless precision, matching (if not exceeding) the aggression of his counterparts at every turn. The end result of this combination is a frenetic brand of punk rock akin to the Angry Samoans, Circle Jerks, and Ramones.

According to Goner's Eric Friedl, Overnight Lows was a band that had long been on the label's wishlist.

“We'd been fans of Marsh & Daphne since their days in the Comas,” says Friedl. “They've been the Overnight Lows forever, and were famous (or infamous?) for very drunken shows where they couldn't get through songs. But we still loved them, and their songwriting has always been really good. We had been bugging the band for years before we got this out of them.”

He then adds, emphatically, “We literally cannot believe that we have an Overnight Lows record out.”

Overnight Lows' debut album, City of Rotten Eyes, was released February 16th on Goner Records. For more information visit www.goner-records.com or www.myspace.com/theovernightlows. "
