It's a fair point given that "Original Cast Recording" is not an artist. Personally, for soundtracks or cast recordings, I'd use the singer as the artist, or if it's an instrumental, the composer or producer. Simple. There's always at least one human being that you can name.

If this is an incorrect tag I don't understand why last.fm has auto-corrected one of my tags to it.

But... I've downloaded things from iTunes (my live Rocky Horror recording, for instance) that uses Original Cast Recording as its artist. Many of the CDs I own put Original Cast Recording or a variation thereof (Broadway or London) by default. Sorry, Last.fm, but I have no interest in clogging the hell out of my iTunes and media library just because you say my artist tags are 'wrong'.

Spotify is so irritating, because when it has stuff labelled wrong there's nothing you can do about it.

"Last.fm needs to fix scrobbling with Broadway shows. There is no unified way to tag these songs other than by show. If you tag by whatever combination of performers happen to be in each song, you'll have 10-15 different artist combos for each soundtrack. That just adds more clutter to the site." I agree with this.

Uhhh...you can't get mad at people for having incorrect tags and then not explain how you want us to fix them. Use the "artist" - what does that mean for a cast recording? Who is the artist? The person who wrote the song? The singer of that particular song? The conductor of the orchestra?

Use Picard. Last.fm likes the tag it gives 99% of the time. Can't find In the Heights on it though. : P

It simply attracts a wider audience. :] And yes, the charts will flip. I've been listening to In the Heights, and to be honest I am not in love. I dunno.

I don't like that they don't want to put the show name, it causes a lot of problems. For example, what do I put for "The Boy From Oz"? Peter Allen wrote all of the songs, but Hugh Jackman sang the thing. Really I put Hugh Jackman as the artist, but still I can see other problems popping up.

Five bucks says the chart flips from "Wicked" to "In the Heights" within two months.

The song As Long As You're Mine from Wicked actually goes into iTunes as As Long As Your Mine for some reason, some people are just too lazy to change it. Or maybe they don't realize that it's the wrong form of the word. Who knows.
