I still miss these guys. My nickname proves this, ha-ha. Still hoping for a reunion, although I am rather sceptical about it judging by what MV has been saying. Oceansize are one of very few bands I know that after all these years still can make my jaw drop every time I listen to Effloresce or EIP or Frames or their EPs, although I have listened to the stuff literally thousands of times (no kidding), it's just pure magic.

You should definitely try Mike's solo stuff, although I'm not a fan. Even though Vennart is about 50% of Oceansize's sound, his solo tracks lack the magic and uniqueness of Oceansize's music. Steve Durose also used to play with Amplifier, they are not bad (esp. their earlier stuff). Gambler is known for his solo ambient stuff and he also recorded a couple of EPs with MV under the moniker British Theatre... you may try all of the above, but anyway you won't find anything that might be on par with the great Oceansize.

They supported Faith No More once. Mike claims it's the worst show they ever played because he was a bag of nerves.

Absolutely nothing wrong with aiming for a poppier/mainstream, if you have the chops to pull it off (it succeding commercially however, is a different matter entirely). Taking the picture of the user above you as an example, Ween made "White Pepper", a very well produced, magnificently played, if a bit too poppy affair, which is far cry from Ween's usual weird demeanor, yet, I don't consider that album any less than great.

I think it's kind of a weird perspective, and it may be my ignorance, but a band like Oceansize was, for me, a style I kind of stepped back from (traditional post rock, think Mogwai etc, and post-metal, think Isis & Cult of Luna) and sort of just absorbed a 'normie' approach to decent music. At the time, I didn't even realise Amputee as a song, would even be a cliche or something to think lesser of. It's always nice to read someone else's opinion (even though in this case it doesn't change mine) but yeah I never heard it from your perspective.

What if I told you I have the technology to make this happen? That I have spent the last several years of my life not to correct the considerable errors in the past, of the human endeavor, but so that you can see them live again. Would you be willing to make this journey with me? If so, I need you to send me 10,000 bitcoin and our journey together to the past can come to fruition. Be hasty, as the past awaits.

My nickname is no disguise. Love at first listen (around 2004). Still hoping for a reunion.

Amazing band. Had them on my "To listen to" list for many years. finally decided to give them a shot. Sad I didn't listen to them when they were around.

I've been sleeping on 'Self-Preserved(...)' I always wrote it off as not being as good as their earlier material, but it's really good!

Damn Oceansize were brilliant. It's a catastrophe that they lasted for such a short time.

Couldn't help but see the debate below and figured I'd chime in...Amputee is def one of their more generic/commercial songs but its way too catchy to hate. The worst Oceansize songs by far imo are Heaven Alive and Meredith. Both of those are the closest Oceansize ever got to sounding like some typical bland neo-prog band and iirc even they hated those songs/only wrote them in an attempt to take a stab at commercialism that didn't work anyway. Def agreed that Self Preserved is crazy underrated as well.
