Nomoredolls are literally ushering in a new era in the tenure of their career with the release of Another Way of Living. By adopting a newer, more mature approach to
their craft this quartet have reshaped their sound from linear alternative rock to a textured and nuanced sonic expression.
The group’s desire to push the limits of their creativity comes to fruition on Another Way of Living, with Brit-influenced electro new wave, borrowing from The Cure and Joy Division, yet still maintaining a contemporary modern edge, much like Editors and Interpol. Adding to this combination, are Cecilia’s haunting vocals that have often drawn comparisons to another ‘80s icon, Chrissie Hynde.
Based in Italy, but sometimes calling London and New York home, Nomoredolls are preparing for the release of their fourth album Another Way of Living and concentrating on creating a darker sound, found on tracks like “The Boxeur” and “Revelation (trip-one).”
Nomoredolls represent an interesting dichotomy in their diverse trainings, with both Cecilia and Pier’s both being classically influenced. Cecilia entered the world of music as a jazz singer, touring with international artists at a young age, while Pier’s musical roots go back to his days when taking classical piano lessons. Whereas the other half of the group honed their skills independently, with Max who studied music as a child, playing the guitar and as well as developing an interest in synthesizers. Marco has flexed his bass skills over the years playing for a number of other projects before stumbling upon Nomoredolls.
Over the past eight years, Nomoredolls have amassed three other successful offerings, starting with the self-released A Cat in the Mouth of a Mouse EP in 2003, 2004’s The Green EP (N3 Music) and the self-titled Nomoredolls (N3 Music/EMI) in 2005. Additionally, select tracks, including “Deadly Foe” off Nomoredolls was featured on the soundtrack to Italian television show, Lucignolo (The Saifam Group) and their 2008 single, “Killer” charted in the top 10 on the Italian iTunes charts for three weeks. Looking to break away from their past, Nomoredolls are concentrating on their new line up and churning out a carefully woven album of new sounds.
After playing a slew of shows in Europe and managing to single-handedly tour the US via their own connections, Nomoredolls garnered international press, including a feature in the Italian edition of GQ Magazine and an online tour-diary chronicling their exploits from the road. Their love affair with the US extends beyond touring, with Nomoredolls writing and performing in primarily English while recording Another Way of Living in Milan.
Set to be released on September 30, Another Way of Living will showcase Nomoredoll’s transition from acclaimed Italian rock band to full- fledged cross over act with their take on ‘80s era stars like New Order, coupled with layered arrangements punctured with new wave riffs ala White Lies.
