"Wish I Had An Angel" was the eleventh single for Finnish symphonic power metal band Nightwish, the second from their fifth album Once. The song features vocals by then-vocalist Tarja Turunen and bassist Marco Hietala, but is still performed live with current vocalist Anette Olzon and is often used as the final song of the band's live shows.
Featured on the soundtrack of the film Alone in the Dark, it became the group's most popular single in Europe and in the United States, next to Nemo. It made it onto two U.S. film soundtracks. It reached #60 in the United Kingdom, the highest of any of the band's singles in the UK.

The song speaks of love and how it is so easily corrupted, and the pain resulting there from. “I wish I had your angel” - I wish I had your innocence, as mine has been destroyed by lust and dark thoughts. The innate self centeredness of my human nature burns innocence (angel wings) to dust. It corrupts goodness. It destroys beauty. The inability to escape the human condition. The song reflects the complex emotions that plague humanity. It’s painful to be human.

The song was also used as soundtrack in the film 'Alone In The Dark', 2004.
