Neil revealed in the liner notes for his compilation album Decade that he wrote the lyrics for this song, as well as "Cinnamon Girl", and "Down By The River" while bedridden in a delirious state suffering from a 104 degree (40 °C) fever and flu in his California home. In live performances, Neil and Crazy Horse often extend the song to over sixteen minutes, with extended solo sections.
