I’m a capitalist; so naturally I give weight to info provided by market forces. In my own musical micro-economy, the market is telling me, “Winged Can is freakin awesome!” This song has made it to the very top of my play count list, which means that this song would, without question, make it onto my top 10 desert island list. The structure of “Winged Can” is patterned after a typical indie-rock song but the chord progression can be attributed to Nedelle’s jazz inclinations. The relaxed vocals in combination with authentic lyrics achieve a distinctive level of intimacy with the listener. I believe this is what provides the song with its tremendous repeat value. That being said, where in the world did it come from? As soon as I came across “Winged Can” I furiously sought out the rest of Nedelle’s music only to be sadly disappointed. If you’re not a jazz fan, forget about it, you won’t make it past the second or third song search. Moral of the story: the market can only tell us so much.

It must be two years since I first heard her. Shame on me for not having listened to her more since then.
