Beautiful Rebel - Navicula. Released Jan 2007. Indie. Bali, Indonesia.
It's like putting extra coffee in your regular blend - more bitter and strong, but it gets you all revved up and ready for more. That's what 'Beautiful Rebel' does to you with its addictive drum beats. Navicula are local environmentally conscious heroes of love and grunge. Their originality and guts to explore grunge all the way to the core is revealed in this, their fifth release where they go back to their independent roots.
The album has 11 tracks that total 40 minutes+ of down tunes that are purposefully distorted to awaken your consciousness and give you insights about what peace, harmony, love and personal independence are all about. They have added some interesting musical elements such as a spoonful of mandolin in "Modern Mantra" and simple, short but deep guitar chords that remind us of moustachey Jack White of the White Stripes in "Abdi Negri" (Country's Servant) who shouted lyrics about the evils of politics. Their "Televishit" track has some similarities to the Red Hot Chili Pepper's "Throw Away your Television" as both bands are truly against the public lies and nonsense that are fed to us through propaganda via TV. So, wanna taste a different taste from the local scene? This is deffinitely it!
