Biography
Nat Johnson and The Figureheads is a British five-piece band based in Sheffield led by singer, songwriter and guitarist Nat Johnson (formerly of folk-pop band Monkey Swallows the Universe. Their music ranges from sparse acoustic folk-pop twinkling to a full, electric sound encompassing alt-country and indie. They released their debut album, "Roman Radio", in October 2009 on Damaged Goods Records and recorded live radio sessions for Marc Riley, Tom Robinson and John Kennedy in 2010. They released a new EP, ‘What the Heart Pours Into’, on March 7th 2011 on Damaged Goods.
When Monkey Swallows the Universe disbanded in 2008, Johnson went solo for a short while, releasing a single, 'Dirty Rotten Soul', which Steve Lamacq made his "single of the week" at the time. Johnson then assembled her backing band The Figureheads - Kevin Gori (also of Monkey Swallows the Universe), Chris Loftus, Neil Piper and Emily Gunn.
The band released "I'm Across, I'm Ashore" in 2012.
