I saw them the first time live on the Tour to TDH. They made a really dark atmosphere on there concerts at this time... even Aaron hates live gigs he made some really incredible performances. Darkness in perfection like this record.

This one really reminds me of a lot of some of the albums that Opeth have done, but this is more cohesive, The songs flow better into each other and the general disposition of the record is much more developed. The clean vocals here are also miles ahead of Åkerfeldt.

Back in high school, I once played this album from beginning to end in the computer room. My classmates wanted to kill themselves by the time it finished. Probably my favourite MDB album. A classic.

The Great Trinity : "Turn Loose The Swans" , "Songs of Darkness, Words of Light" and "The Dreadful Hours" ... never boring.

One of my all time favourite doom metal albums - Sombre, haunting, utterly beautiful at times and extremely heavy at others - a doom/death masterpiece from one of the greatest Doom metal bands in the world.
