"Neutron Star Collision (Love Is Forever)" is a non-album song recorded in 2010 for the The Twilight Saga Eclipse Original Soundtrack. It was written without intent to include it on the soundtrack but was appropriate for it, so it was contributed. The song was previewed by Zane Lowe on BBC Radio One on 7:30pm BST on the release date, immediately after which it was available as a download single.
The piano outro of the song is Rachmaninoff's Adagio sostenuto which Matt played occasionally during the Absolution tour before Sunburn.
The song was recorded in April 2010 in California, after the Coachella festival, having been written after the release of The Resistance, presumable during the eponymous tour.
Stephanie Meyer's website announced the single on 6th May 2010:
"The first single on "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse - Original Motion Picture Soundtrack" has just been confirmed and I get to bring you the exclusive details. Stephanie's very favourite band, Muse, have contributed a song called "Neutron Star Collision (Love Is Forever)" and it's the first single from the project. "
Matthew Bellamy wrote the song shortly after a break-up with his girlfriend. The lyrics are intended to capture the feeling of the early days of relationship, where everything seems permanent.
