All of Phil's boo-hooing about his wife dying is rendered moot by the fact that he hooked up with Heath Ledger's actress wife not two years after the fact. I feel bad for Genevieve for having such a wimp for a husband, but maybe I feel worse for their daughter.

It's self righteous of me to claim that it's wrong to hook up with a Hollywood actress a year after your wife of 12 years and the mother of your child dies from cancer while you're in the process of making music about how horrible it is that your wife of 12 years and the mother of your child died from cancer?

And that's why he divorced her one entire year later? Of all the people in the world to serve as a substitute mother, Phil chooses Michelle Williams, famous Hollywood actress, who will hardly ever have the time to raise her step-daughter? Interesting synthesis!

I feel like you have no place to comment on the facts of someone elses life (you do not know the facts of their life yourself, rendering your argument pretty parasocial, almost the definition of it) again, get over yourself.

I most certainly can if they make it the chief concern of their art, and not just once or twice, but thrice over. Not only is it artistically disingenuous, but morally bankrupt and disgusting. Try again.

Found yourself stepping a bit too far out of your depth, did you? It's okay to get humbled. You'll fare better next time.

I have listened to a lot of depressive music in my life, especially DBM and DSBM, but I wasn't prepared for 'A Crow Looked At Me.' I just finished listening to that album, and I feel like I've shattered into a thousand pieces. On one hand, it's something incredibly beautiful that I don't think I've ever heard before, but on the other hand, I probably won't revisit it again 🖤

It's interesting looking back on my relationship with Phil's music over the past ten years (Clear Moon was the first album I heard by him across his various guises). I genuinely feel a connection to his life with his daughter and his grief that I've never felt with any other musician, which must mean he's conveyed that grief in a unique way in music. The imagery of his home life and his poetry surrounding Geneviève's death are so intense that I honestly feel like I know him, which is of course not true because I've never met him. I guess many listeners of his music feel the same way, like the way he expressed his grief on those two albums was a total expression; a total expression of the human capacity for loving and living through that pain. Like, I read somewhere he said the music on Crow is barely music, almost just spoken word meanderings. Contrast to other heartbreak albums from around the same time like Vulnicura and it's obviously totally different.

he's doing fine, he obviously grieved his wife's death but he's said it himself on the documentary There's no End that he's worried about people perceiving him as just this "sad guy" when he's just living, experiencing and portraying everything in his art,
