Especially when Dom's bass creeps in early and jostles the hair right off of Stuart's head: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XNVua-kot5A

That's great. My maths teacher put me onto Neil Young. Some teachers you never forget.

I only hope I can have that kind of impact on someone in their formative years.

They had a period where they slagged them in the press and even made "Blur are Shite" T-shirts. I don't think rivalry was the right word to use since I never heard or read anything about Blur responding to it.

Mogwai is one of the most consistent band ever. 30 years later they still play amazing music, every album is at least enjoyable and often amazing... and live they are unbelievable!

Fuckin' headin' to the brew. Headin' tae get my giro and I pass this couple o' buses at the side o' the road. Everybody's pilin' aff the front wan intae the wan behind. Auld folk like that: "This is ridiculous, never used tae be like this with the corporation buses". I wis like that: "I see, we've got ourselves a breakdoon". Checks to see where they're aw headin'. Yoker. And I just pissed masel' laughin'. "Haa". Cause Yoker's wan o' these places I only know from the front o' a bus. Never been there. Don't know what it's like, just this pure mad fabled land that sounds like a pure mad egg yolk.

Happy Songs for Happy People - монументальная работа.

I find their later albums, "As the Love Continues" included, mainly boring, tbh. overly intellectual, lacking suspense.. and heart. what's wrong with some good old post-rock formula in a well done manner? where are the dreamy melodies? don't get me wrong, "Mr. Beast" was one of the door openers to post-rock for me. I appreciate Mogwai a lot and I love certain songs to death. But I got the feeling Mogwai are worse than their reputation. and their "weirdness" (as their image) hides the fact that they have difficulties creating an emotional journey like Mono (as the perfect example) or other post-rock bands are able to do. I rather listen to the latest albums of bands like Versus The Ghost or Black Flak And The Nightmare Fighters, who are such small entities in comparison to Mogwai, than trying to find something special in "As the Love Continues"...

Have you ever stopped for one second and considered, just maybe, the band are sick of that sound and have evolved into something else? I don't care for newer Mogwai but I don't hold them in contempt for not sounding like dime a dozen post-rock anymore. They're quite clearly a band that was never influenced by that sound (outside of the obvious early Slint wankoffs) - it involved into a whole heap of horseshit of a genre once the 90's bands moved onto better things outside of a few exceptions.

I get your point. but why is post-rock still so popular? because it sends you on a journey that is very intimate and emotionally overwhelming at the same time while everything flows.. towards the confrontation with yourself. without haste and disruption. Jakob or Mono are some examples. however, there are so many more great bands (you might have missed ) that fulfill that criterion without being generic, you just need to look around. today's (!) Mogwai, however, often are too "meta" and "different" to create authentic emotions, imo.

These guys doesn't know how to wrong. "As The Love Continues" is the continuation of a magnificent and very unique form of doing atmospheric rock without patterns, totally uncompromised, still spiring... every album is better than the last one. Them and GSY!BE are the true survivors of the genre, bands that have grown old like the good scoth.

Very interesting, for me personally it's the opposite. There is so much of the 'good old post-rock formula' that I just can't seem to get that emotional feeling from those bands, because it ends up sounding so similar to each other. Mogwai usually have more varied, diverse songs (over the course of an album) with different certain moods and tones. I just like that approach more than what Mono do for example. To break it down I'd say Mogwai songs are more about the emotional "moment" rather than a "journey". Both are great of they work for you. :)
