MM doesn't have a bad album per se, but this is not my favorite. Most of the songs are kinda middle of the pack for me (when you take a look at thei vast catalogue). But I must say that some of my all-time favorite MM songs come from this record: Missed The Boat, Spitting Venom, People As Places As People, March Into The Sea.

I'm sorry, this is my favorite album by Modest Mouse. It's one of those albums that when I play it, I can't put it down. Next would be The Moon and Antarctica, then Strangers to Ourselves, and Good News for People Who Love Bad News. Why? Because I don't like Dance Hall. The instrumental is amazing, but I don't like the lyrics. Don't get me wrong, I love Good News for People Who Love Bad News as well I wouldn't want to go back to listen to Making Something Out of Nothing. Oh, and fuck Uncle Bunny Faces, and Tube Fruit All Smiles and Chocolate. Though Race Car Grin and Super Saver Day are great. I haven't listened to The Lonesome Crowded West all the way through. I haven't listened to Sad Sappy Sucker, or This is a Long Drive for Someone With Nothing to Think About. I'm pretty sure I fucked up that title. I've listened to Everywhere and His Nasty Parlo(u)r Tricks, and No One's First and You're Next. Both are amazing. I haven't listened to Interstate 8, or Blue Cadet 3, Do You Connect?.

Honestly their best album post-TM&A. I like Good News and Strangers to Ourselves, but to me this is the only album that comes closest to their first three albums.

Of course it doesn't hit the heights of "Lonesome Crowded West" or "The Moon & Antarctica" , but I've always thought of this is their most underrated release. I would even dare to say it's better than "This is a Long Drive".

I think an opinion would be "this is my favorite". You can objectively tell this is not their best based on their catalogue, on how they have improved or not, technique and so on. Opinions can never be facts, even for the person expressing said opinion. This can lead to people saying that "In my opinion the Earth is flat", which is not a fact at all (sorry flat-earthers). But yeah, it's totally cool that this might be your favorite record from them, the one you enjoy the most, etc. I respect that ;)

Nah, you can't "objectively tell this isn't their best album based on their catalogue, on how they have improved or not, technique and so on." What criteria would you be judging them to have "improved" on? Technical complexity isn't grounds for saying music is good or bad, a band could be highly proficient with their instruments and play soulless, boring music. Composition? What do you consider to be "good" songwriting? Following compositional convention? For which genre? Fact is, unless someone is screwing up playing the notes they intended (which does not happen on this album) there is no objective judgment of music that determines whether an album is "their best" or not. It's all opinion.

A definite pop album but I'll be damned if Parting of the Sensory isn't one of the best MM songs ever written

It makes me mad that this album doesn't receive the love that it deserves. It's a great summery pop album with Issac's perfect lyricism.

I really have only one complaint about this album. The frickin' drum machines! MM, you got back Jeremiah Green, the greatest rock drummer of all time, and you don't even use him?? I hope they strip down the production on the next album.

This album is actually pretty damn good. Doesn't hold a candle to their earlier stuff but it's still good in its own right.

definitely not my favorite, but it is up there among their bests imo. parting of the sensory, education, and people as places as people are absolutely fantastic. bands evolve, hating them because they don't sound like their first few albums is silly, because this one really is great.

You know, when I I think of this as a Modest Mouse album, I hate it. But if I think of it as a second Ugly Casanova album ft. Johnny Marr and James Mercer, I enjoy it quite a bit.

I love this album. Period. Florida is probably the best track, imo. Fire it Up and Missed the Boat are the only ones I really don't care for.
