So is it actually good news being given to people who would prefer bad news and therefore the news is unsatisfactory to said people on account of being good? Or is it 'good news' for people who like bad news in that it's more bad news for people who like said bad news and that's good for them on account of getting more of what they want?

I got into MM throught this album and I think it does a very good job at introducing the band to new listeners. It might not be my favorite after listening to TM&A or the TLCW, but a lot of songs became favorites, such as The World At Large, Ocean Breathes Salty, The View (one of my all-time favorites), One Chance, This Devil's Workday and even Float On. I guess I cherish this record becuse it got me into this amazing band <3

people shit on it on occasion but it's my personal favorite Modest Mouse album. love The Lonesome Crowded West and The Moon & Antarctica as much as the next guy but every song from Good News could qualify as my favorite Modest Mouse track depending on the day.

Still a pretty great album even considering the greatness that came before it. Fond memories of playing a leaked version of it in the bookstore i worked prior to release.

Earlier stuff is better. That doesn't mean this or even the later stuff is bad.

people who like this modest mouse usually don't bother listening to their earlier stuff which is far superior to this and everything after.

I first got into this album, but then I started listening to This Is a Long Drive For Someone With Nothing to Think About and The Moon & Antarctica, they're much, much better in my opinion. Great band.

I've been trying so hard to fully love this and while I think it's a decent album, it still doesn't affect me the way their older releases do.
