This record gets WAY too much hate. I've heard people say the melodies are bad, the lyrics are bad, etc. A few of the tracks are misses, but its got a ton of hits for me. Hold Me Down, Excuses, Dayglow Vista Rd, Secret Country, Fooled by the Night... all great. Fooled by the Night is definitely the biggest grower on it for me. I still dig My Time, Summer Angel, Into the Mirror, and Animal Backwards a bit. The Thief is a complete and total miss for me, that's an irritating song.

This album ain't bad, but it would be much, much better minus the first two songs. And no, I'm not against a developing, fresh sound of the band, it's just that they can do much better if they don't try to sound super-poppy and shallow - which the rest of the album clearly shows.

I dont know what u guys are listening to, but this is Minus The Bear! Not more disco, not more pop than the other albums. Put all albums in your playlist turn random on and everything fits perfectly. And there is definitly a Menos El Oso feel in it. I think Planet of Ice is their "weakest" ore more different album. But I still can hear all their albums and love them. Just feel the music, and stop judging every detail and searching for failures...

Horrible, horrible, horrible. The Pitchfork review was spot on about this god awful Maroon 5 crooning garbage. Such a shame, Menos El Oso is still one of my favorite albums of all time and it's sad such garbage has came since that wonderful album.

When I first heard My Time and Broken China, I thought it was strange that they were exploring the more dancy and poppy sound that they sprinkled on the earlier albums. But I thoroughly love it. All of their albums have a different flavor, and all of the them are amazing to me. This album is so full of emotion. Definitely one of the best albums of 2010 so far, if not the best.

my honest opinion of this album is... I want my money back. I'm glad some people love it, but I can't. Their other albums had cool guitar melodies and time signatures in EVERY SONG! Most of the songs on this cd are just total pop in my opinion. Haven't listened to some of the songs on the back half of the cd because after the first three songs I'm already tired of it. After Menos and Pirates, I was expecting way better. I was telling my friends how much this band rocks, so I played them Omni, they weren't convinced. Later they heard Menos el Oso and loved it. I just think this new album is a lot less creative. if you love it, I'm happy for you! but my opinion is, this CD isn't worth more than 5 bucks (i paid 13)

Think a bit of retagging needs to be done here before things reach an advanced stage, i've wrongly tagged 'Dayglow Vista Rd' as '...Road' as i didn't look at the cd when doing so, but the most common way is "Rd." It is "Rd" on the cd, without the "." so that's what i'm changing mine too! Got that?

not a bad album at all. it has the feeling of MENOS EL OSO, a lot more than PLANET of ICE. but, how can i say, they seem to be tired of sweaty show to their unique guitar rhythms and replaced them with keyboard stuff. the songs are good, i just wished they had the sound of MENOS EL OSO... maybe something like a remix album would do it for me...

Omni b-sides: South Side Life http://minusthebear....Side%20Life.mp3 and Your Private Sky http://minusthebear....ivate%20Sky.mp3 These are so good! Like an evolved Planet of Ice. Everyone should check these out! I'm actually bummed these didn't make the final cut. It would have taken away from Omni's tight pop feel, but damn, an extended album with these and Broken China would have been so ace.

@whatstheplan, sadly I can't agree with the statement that Omni is "better then some of their earlier stuff". It seems with every release they lose a little bit of what made those early disks special. The uplifting California party vibe used to be a nice added gloss over the complex and heart-jolting music, now it seems to be pretty much all that's left.

into the mirror is best song of their new album, which is, as said before, different, but not in a bad way. I still like their sound. In their genre, best band ever !

It's good. A close contender with POI and possibly Menos El Oso. But HRP still reigns supreme. Better then some of their earlier stuff, add a couple more technical songs and this album would be right up there with HRP.
