Uhm. You know, I tried to remember "music" from the Frictional horror games and there was really nothing coming to my mind. This is strictly criticism about the music, not the games but these are some of the most forgetable average compositions I have ever heard. Does it fit to the certain scenes or moods? Yeah, probably but nothing sounds even remotely unique or like something you would keep in mind. This music is probably what you usually find as stock assets... The standard for horror game music isn't exactly high though and this are definitely not the only horror games with forgetable standard music. It is certainly not easy to write music that fits to this type of genre but Silent Hill or Dead Space have shown us that it is certainly possible.

Some people just arent ready to deal with other peoples opinions and criticism. Not that I am surprised though. Why did you censor inbred? Whats with you guys that constantly resort to defamation but then not even go through and censor stuff?

Well I think exactly the opposite way, while Dead Space Outlast, and even Amnesia a machine for pigs for instance have very unnerving music (which fits both games100% perfectly and adds to the atmosphere), it sounds, like, the same? Soundtracks for both games were created with orchestral instruments for the most part, in the "classic" horror way if you know what I mean (sharp loud sounds combined with violin suspense, chromatic movements on the instruments etc). Amnesia the dark descent on the other side was a compilation of different sounds, synthesizers and samples which makes it so unique, there is a video on YouTube where mikka explains his production for this game.

Oh, yeah, great memories. Especially that first Amnesia with that creepy dude in the underground. One of the creepiest games I've ever played.

In my opinion it's one of the most introspective and psychologically tense games I ever played (except for a plothole that I don't want to spoiler, we understand midway how the blatant ending will be, while the main character is completely oblivious). The scare factor is due to its existential questioning, it's more about the story in itself and the environment, rather than avoiding monsters.

Couldn't agree more Connacht! Good summary of what this game is really about. Played it 3 times and every time it was mindblowing, though i know the ending all too well.

All respect to Mikko and his excellent work, but it isn't really scary when taken out of the context of the game. It's still beyond worth a listen separately, don't misunderstand, but when you pull out the other elements (like the brilliant sound design elements, among other things) it just doesn't invoke the same sense of pure terror/fear on its own. Still damned good though, very much so.

I finished Overture yesterday and the music is definitly the biggest part of it... Stressing/Anxiogenic instrumental ambiant music is also one of my favorite style so this is such an inspiration..
