Load and ReLoad came out when I was around 12-14 years old, right when I was starting to discover music for myself and not just what my parents listened to, so these 2 albums are the Metallica that I grew up with, and although I also really like their 80's thrash stuff and the Black Album, these are the ones I mostly tend to come back to out of nostalgia.. ReLoad mainly just for the singles, but Load overall is criminally underrated IMO, it mostly rocks! (also I think i've mellowed out a lot more now I'm in my late 30s compared to my teens and twenties and my listening tastes have gotten a lot more quieter and laidback in recent times) haha :)

I have a weird, nostalgic soft spot for this album. I owned it, along with all their other previous albums, on CD and listened to it a lot while growing up. My brother owned Load, and so I listened to that one less than this, and even though it's an objectively better album, somehow this one will always hold a place in my heart even though it's a hot mess.

I respect your opinion. Personally, I think this one is their weakest, but I still LIKE it. It's nice when you have an album that means so much to you in that nostalgic way.

If mediocre songs like Bad Seed, Better Than You, Attitude and Prince Charming had been left out, an absolute great album would remain. Fixxxer and Where the Wild Things Are are incredible songs, charged with feeling and emotion. Low Man's Lyric and Carpe Diem Baby are not far behind.

I love Avril Lavigne's version of Fuel. It sounds sexy in a plastic chest sort of way.

Putting aside all the stylistic choices from this period, if they had released an album of the best cuts from this LP + the best from Load, they would have really released something truly special. Unfortunately, I'm going to agree with Alchedoc - mediocre LP aside from a few good tracks.

It's not really fourth though, considering the tags for "...And Justice for All" & "Kill 'em All" Then it's competing with Load, St. Anger, Death Magnetic and the new album, which will also have bad tags.

I like this one (and Load) pretty well. Now, I think it should be trimmed down a bit, but there's some interesting experimental stuff going on with Reload. I would agree with MyMediaMusic that I find Reload more interesting/better than the Black Album, too. Having said all that, "The Unforgiven II" is a piece of shit.

Actually, a very good album. I'm a HUGE fan of the 80s albums, but Load and Reload aren't as bad as the fanboys say they are, and Reload especially is a great album. I would say that I actually enjoy it better than the Black album. Lots of variety on here, lots to like for everybody. People who don't like this album and its predecessor need to get their heads out from between their legs and listen to music besides headbanging thrash and speed metal. You might actually like it.

Thank you! Somebody who doesn't think I'm an "idiot" for voicing an opinion contrary to the majority.

No problem, mate. I grew up listening to these albums so they hold a special place in my heart. Same thing with Megadeth's 1997-2001 album period, they are vastly underrated because people expected a metal album, and they are not that and don't need to be, it's still good music.

Because of the 'hits'. Playlists / online radio-stations that will play just rock/metal hits will boost the plays of this album. Unfortunately.

If this and Load had been trimmed to about an hour each, they probably would've been more warmly received. It might've been even better to trim them to a single CD's worth of material. I can't actually name any songs on either album I actively dislike, but I rarely listen to either of them in their entirety because they're so long and so much of the material doesn't stand out much. The highlights of both albums, though, are amazing.

Good album, I prefer it to Load by a fairly wide margin. That said, it doesn't even come close to the stuff from the 80s. "Devil's Dance" is a killer track.

Gave this whole album another full listen last night after skipping many songs from this album when I had the whole Metallica discography on shuffle previously. Now I feel that this album is just massively underrated. I actually prefer Loas over this, because I am more of a fan of the groovy hard rock style of that album, even though I appreciate the more bluesy twin of Reload. Some awesome jams here are Fuel (obviously!), The Memory Remains, Devil's Dance, Unforgiven 2, Bad Seed, Where The Wild Things Are, Low Man's Lyric and Fixxxer (which is a better closing song than The Outlaw Torn, but that is also very good as well). Just IMO! Don't agree, that's fine by me.
