I see a lot of people saying that Houdini or Stoner Witch is the place for aspiring Melvins fans to begin with the band, but I've always felt this was the best introduction to them (as well as being one of their absolute best records overall). You get a couple of the patented Melvins sludgy creepers ("Boris" being perhaps the apotheosis of that style; gotta be between "Boris" and "Eye Flys," I'd say), a catchy riff-rocker that's about as normal as early-ish Melvins got ("It's Shoved"), super heavy asskickers ("Anaconda" and "Zodiac" (love that slide effect Buzz uses)) and "Cow" has a drum solo from hard-hitting drum god Dale Crover. The ones I didn't mention are great, too. It's basically a perfect album if you like this type of music at all. Fun fact: Years ago I had a (probably bootlegged) blue t-shirt with the album art on the front, but one night I overindulged and puked all over myself and I could never get the smell of vomit out of the shirt no matter how much I washed it.

It's like that episode of Seinfeld where Jerry can't get the stinking "BO" out of his car.

Yeah, but do remember this came out in 1991, and Dopesmoker and Dopethrone (you meant that by saying Funeralopolis right?) in 2003 and 2000 so... Melvins had so much influence on modern metal that all doom/sludge/stoner metal bands should praise them in the altar of almighty king buzzo.

Whew… I just listened to the whole damn album. Kudos to Last.fm for letting me do that; it’s so very nice of you btw. Wow, what to say… Bullhead ranks up there with Sleep’s Dopesmoker & Electric Wizard’s Funeralopolis as a sludge/doom/stoner-metal magnum opus. When you need to have something that is molasses like in tempo and skull crushing in tuning you can come here and feel satisfied when you leave.

Filthy, dirty, classic, locker-room floor Melvins. Get a little misty an nostalgic listenin to this stuff. Where do all these good bands go? Oh, yeah; they all move to california.
