Northern Star is the first solo album released by Spice Girl Melanie C. It was released in 1999. The album contains significant elements of rock music, which contrasted with the pop sound of the Spice Girls. It was reasonably well received by critics and was a commercial success, selling over 900,520 copies in the United Kingdom, and close to 4 million copies worldwide, becoming the biggest-selling solo Spice Girl album so far.
'Go' was used as a main title soundtrack in the 2000 comedy Whatever It Takes starring James Franco and Shane West.
'Ga Ga' was featured in the 1999 comedy Big Daddy starring Adam Sandler, and also in Charmed's episode 2x10 Heartbreak City.
The first track off of the album to receive radio play was Ga Ga, which had its world premiere on the Chris Moyles afternoon drive time show on BBC Radio 1 in Summer 1999.
