I finally found the time to carefully listen to the 2018 remaster, and holy shit, does it miss the point of the original. Can't imagine that Blasphemer was/is ok with this version. All the industrial, clinical flair and atmosphere has been turned into a cliché "rough" bm sound mash, but it just doesn't work with the compositions and original arrangements. The most obvious example is the almost purely electronic track "A Bloodsword And A Colder Sun Pt.2" that weirdly fitted into Morten Lund's original mix and master. Jaime Gomez' version is completely drained of its soul, and the entire track has become a rather mutilated skeleton of its former self. When the remaster was announced back then I couldn't imagine what could be improved or changed for the better. Now that I've heard it, I'll stay with the original version. This was Mayhem at their peak of boldness and innovation.

If "worst" just by being not true black - I have to disagree. Very interesting avant-garde metal album, I love the fact that they at least tried to do something different. This, and " 34.788%...Complete" by My Dying Bride are a great examples of good albums but just misunderstood and underrated by fans at that time.

Super underrated. Not my fav Mayhem record, but one of their best and definitely doesn’t deserve the stick it receives. Also the original is a million times better than the recent ‘remaster’

It's a great record, but what's the point of 5 minutes of silence? Must've missed something...

while I think this is a great avant-garde metal album, I don't understand why they thought it was a good idea to release this under the mayhem name (or generally continuing with this name after the death of Euronymous). Euronymous probably would not have liked this record and I'm pretty sure he would turn in his grave.

My fave Mayhem album, since it reminds me a bit of Ulver/ Dodheimsgard/ Ved Buens Ende/ Arcturus which are really my FAVE Norwegian metal bands in history, 2st wave, 3rd wave or whatever bro

Тут самые тупые и бездарные гитарные рифы, которые только были у Мэйэм. Только рэпчинка Маньяка тащит этот альбом.

The remaster just furthers my opinion this is the best Mayhem album. I do understand why people hate it, but to me it's their best.

The first Mayhem album I ever had and it's good. However, they have much better material than this.

Underrated album. Even if its 17 years old, it has a very strong production and a futuristic sound and songwriting.

Sorely underrated album even now, although it finally seems to be gaining some of the recognition it's always deserved. This is Mayhem at their most experimental and proficient, with killer riffs throughout, and they manage to encompass diverse styles like doom metal and electronica without losing the atmosphere that's always made their works successful. Avant-garde black metal doesn't get much better than this. DMDS is great, of course, but this will probably always be my favourite Mayhem release.

It's sad that this album never got the recognition it deserved, since!ost black metal fans are backwards cunts. This is just as good as Deathcrush and dom

This album is experimental as hell, but not nearly as bad as people make it out to be . Personally, I enjoy it a lot .
