Favorite Songs is such a banger. I would not have expected to be looking as forward to a new MP album in 2024 as I am

Really weird now you mention it. I swear the people I know alone would generate more scrobbles than that.

i think on spotify it is down as "maximo park" but i'm sure for other bands it knows to compile the slight variants of artist names together, just not for these guys?

No need for hate. "A Certain Trigger" to me is a quite inspired key album for the mid-00s. I come back to it, once every year or so, it sort of merged with my memories from those days. Apart from that, "Books From Boxes" is a nice song. That's it. Fair enough though. I'd thank them for "A Certain Trigger". And whoever likes to listen to the rest of their work: Enjoy! ;)

I'm setting up an appointment with my audiologist after listening to this sewage, and I highly recommend anyone listening to them does the same. Straight trash music.

Of all those turn of the century/noughties indie bands, Maximo Park were of interest to me immediately, and that's got a lot to do with Paul Smith. A personality goes a long way...plus I love the way he e*nun*ciates..! The Rakes I had a lot of time for, too, inexplicably! Really two-dimensional and limited, but somehow all the better for it. I still listen to them in the car once in a while. Ikara Colt. That's another Brit band I'd recommend to people from around that time. The rest? Apart form early Bloc Party, which I accept as good but still leaves me cold, they've mostly been forgettable. Maybe it's my age. i.e. I was there first time around in the early 80s and post-punk era.

Agreed. I always like Boomkat's brief review "The fact that they're on Warp indicates that Maximo Park are not your run of the mill NME-endorsed knob-heads, preferring a mischievous Britishness that borrows equally from PiL as it does The Kinks. Spiky and lyrically knowing, 'A Certain Trigger' demonstrates a bloodline from Pulp (particularly 'Going Missing') and The Jam ('Postcard of a Painting'), whilst incorporating that special something which sets them apart from the great MTV2 unwashed hordes. With a good ear for lyrics, demonstrated by 'Grafitti's all conquering tag-line, Maximo Park may just be the band from the current guitar crop who are worth writing on your school folder... Now sing to me in French!"

Really? Hmm sounds tempting. I'm not a big fan (Manics neither but who doesn't like Motown Junk), although I've always found them compelling. Will check that new LP out, cheers.

When the new album pops up in the shuffle mode, I don't mind it at all. It is a grower.
