Leviathan and Crack the Skye are amazing, but make sure you don't skip this. It's a masterpiece.

This one just might be my favorite Mastodon album (either this or Blood Mountain, tough to decide). Brann's drumming on this is amazing.

This album sounds like a gargantuan beast furiously stepping over humanity and cracking the earth

@RA-MetalTyrant: I've given every other album of theirs a fair chance, some even several chances because I always feel like there's surely something I'm missing. I have slowly come around to enjoying some of Leviathan, but even that sounds kind of diluted in comparison to this stuff. Nothing else they've done really clicks with me at all. I realise I am in a (pretty vehement) minority with my thoughts on Mastodon's music, but honestly this is one of the greatest metal albums of the last decade (just barely - ten years old now!) for me, and certainly one of the rawest, most gut-wrenchingly awesome albums I've ever heard.

Brann Dailor sounds like he's trying to attack a swarm of angry bees with his drum sticks [4]

@Nagsworth. Did you at least give the others a shot? Or are you just being stubborn?

Saying "their only good album" isn't attempting to be an elitist, you fucking prong. Jesus, I find it laughable how one person's subjective view of a piece of art is viewed as pretentious by someone else who thinks their subjective view of a piece of art should be the objective be-all-and-end-all. You guys are fucking jokers. To me, this is the only Mastodon album I ever want to listen to.
