I was introduced to her via the blog of my probably favourite band (Songdog) and I think she's amazing!

What makes her unique is that she has lived the life of some of the greats like hank williams and townes van zatct and is writing about her own expierences. Thats what the real country music is like. its about sleeping around and fighting in bars. well thats what it was like.

The first time I ever even heard of Mary, she was the special guest at a Girls With Guitars night at The Radio Cafe in east Nashville in 2003 (or maybe early 2004). I promptly bought a copy of "Filth & Fire" from her. Her recordings are great, but you owe it to yourself to see her live.

Last.FM introduced me to Mary. I was immediately hypnotised. Saw her live at Canterbury University just before Christmas and she was superb. Great support act as well. Thought she was performing locally to me (New Forest) but the gig was cancelled! Her lyrics make me cry they are so heartfelt and her music is just captivating. Cant wait for the next album.

i heard her for the first time about a year ago on npr and haven't heard her on the radio since then. it's amazing to me. it's like she's being hidden away. there's too much truth in her music. i don't think we're comfortable with the truth anymore. at least not here in america.

i randomly found this on last.fm through listening to similar artists to jolie holland. song was interesting enough and i just read her biography on here - wow, this woman has been through a lot and it's hard not to be impressed. ran away at 15, first song at 35? waitressing, paid to go to culinary school by job - opened restaurant. anyway, great success story eh?
