"Helen Fordsdale" (often misspelled as "Forsdale") is one of the four Mars songs appeared on the influential "No New York" compilation, produced by Brian Eno.

"Helen Fordsdale was written after Sumner had spent a week upstate in the Catskills and was blown away by the insect sounds and wanted to recreate those sounds. So we started playing the guitars beyond the fret board - I used a slide, I believe he did too. We were satisfied with insect guitars and then Mark created that bass line that made it a song". - China Burg
According to Dan Ruccia from Dusted Magazine, the bass line was later borrowed by Sonic Youth for their song "Starpower", released as a single in 1986.
