Biography

  • Born

    1967 (age 57)

Mark Greaney is the acclamied singer/songwriter and former frontman behind Irish indie/rock group JJ72. The band released two albums JJ72 and I to Sky. Both sold well internationally, with the eponymous debut selling close to a million copies.

The band toured Ireland, the UK, Europe, the USA and Japan- including major festivals along the way, such as Glastonbury, Reading/Leeds Festival, Oxegen and the V Festivals, to name but a few. JJ72 also supported U2 on their “Elevation” tour, culminating in a performance at Slane Castle in Ireland to 80,000 people. They also toured with Coldplay in the USA, and with Muse throughout Europe. The band split in 2006, when it became apparent that Sony Records would not be releasing the band’s third album. The LP remains unreleased.

In 2007, Mark formed a band called Concerto for Constantine. The band amassed a devoted following, mainly due to a reputation for incendiary live performances. The Smashing Pumpkins took note, and asked the band to play support on their Irish dates, as did Snow Patrol in Ireland and the UK. As yet, the band has not released any recorded material.

Mark is currently working on his first solo album. Some recording has taken place with Dave Eringa (producer to the Manic Street Preachers), and with Ciaran Bradshaw, an extremely talented, young Irish producer based in Dublin. Mark’s new work retains all the passion of his previous bands, with the addition of a more insightful maturity, and a sharper edge to its sound.

Mark hopes to release new material early in 2011.
