Its a fantastic album. Didn’t think I would enjoy it as much as I ended up enjoying it. Definitely worth the long wait. Personal highlights are “Nothing Changes”, “Loss of Life” , and recently, “Phradie’s Song”. I honestly prefer it over Little Dark Age which is saying alot considering both are great

the overall concept and atmosphere are pretty much there, but i gotta say, these songs sound unfinished…and not in an artful way. “mother nature” is all the way there, and a few others get close, but this album really just needed some extra seasons in the ferment

Totally agree. It a really good record but it doesn’t have a track I’d want to play individually

it’s odd because the #1 reason rushed albums happen is that people get antsy to do a big tour and make a bunch of money…but MGMT have basically quit touring. so that can’t be it. listening to the record, i get the sense that there’s a folder on their hard drive that’s absolutely crammed with alternate versions of most of these tracks – it really feels like one of those albums where they kept trying to get to that eureka moment, and after many frustrating months (years?) of failed attempts they got to that place where they’re like “…what if we’re just overthinking it? what if it’s already done?” (cue exhausted producer: “totally, guys. that’s totally it. i felt that way forever ago! bounce the stems!”) anyone who’s made more than a couple albums knows that feeling, and more often than not, it’s wrong

This album is fantastic. Haven’t heard their whole discography but this sound is so refined and evocative. Magical atmosphere

Gonna take some time to digest but man I think this is really good. Just listened while driving on a mostly empty highway late at night, recommend

oh 100%!! Congratulations feels like The Mollusk of 2010s, this feels like The Soft Bulletin of the 2020s... both psychedelic and profound, but both with different outlooks on life, just like the aforementioned classic albums from the late 90s

Blasted this front to back in the car while having a downer and it really connected! I found myself singing along to every track. I wasn’t sure in the beginning due to how much I connected with LDA immediately but this is just a different type of album and it’s probably better too. PS I recommend howling along to Bubblegum Dog in the car like a dog, I may have done some “AHHH!” screams too, very cathartic

my first reaction to this album is this: when I was 13, Congratulations was released and completely changed my relationship with consuming music. like I was never into listening to full albums until that album and The Archandroid were released! I fell in love with both of those albums and they became engrained into my musical DNA, both as a musician and as a consumer of music in general. if I were 13 NOW, and I heard this? it would have the same effect on me Congratulations actually did when I was actually 13. so that's DEFINITELY high praise from me 🥹

I was expecting something more vibrant with electro elements so the first listening hit me in a different way. But that's MGMT and they never do what we expect them to and that's why they're the best
